PRIMARY seven pupils from schools across Helensburgh and Lomond pulled on their sports kit as they get ready for the big move to high school.

More than 250 children joined in the event, organised by Argyll and Bute Council Active Schools coordinator Martin Caldwell, which was hosted at Hermitage Academy as part of the annual Hooked on Hermitage transitional programme.

Pupils were divided into mixed school groups prior to arriving and were allocated a different coloured t-shirt depending on the group they were in, adding a visual spectacle of the event.

The groups also enabled children to work with other pupils they didn’t know and make new friends prior to transition to Hermitage Academy.

Half of the day was spent on fun team building and problem solving sessions, with the rest dedicated to more strenuous physical activity and sport.

This year the sport sessions included tag rugby, hockey, taekwondo and netball.

General feedback from the pupils highlighted that many new friendships had been made on a day filled with fun physical activity and team building challenges.

Active Schools would like to thank Adam Hart (Rugby Development, Helensburgh Rugby Club); Barry Cox and Gordon Black (Helensburgh Hockey Club); Steven McLaren (Tae Kwon Do); Rebecca Gammon (Netball); all PE staff at Hermitage Academy and teachers and volunteers who helped with activities on the day. Thanks also to Hermitage Academy for providing access to their fantastic sports facilities and to the S1 pupils from Hermitage Academy who did a fantastic job hosting the primary school pupils and being good ambassadors for the school.
