A MAN who decided to drive home drunk from a wedding has admitted being more than twice the legal limit when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
Police attended Luss Road, near the Blackhill recycling centre in Helensburgh, around 3.20am on June 20 after reports of a damaged vehicle sitting at the side of the road.
Officers found the car with significant front-end damage and Matthew Kitson said he was the driver and had swerved to avoid a deer.
But they smelled alcohol and Kitson said he had been at a wedding nearby and was heading home to Stirling. Officers noted he was going in the wrong direction and Kitson said he was following satnav on his phone.
Kitson, of Wallace Street, Stirling, was found to have 55mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath where the limit is 22mg. He pleaded guilty last Wednesday at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Maxwell Hendry told the 29-year-old: "You made a serious mistake in judgement and it's left you acquiring a serious criminal record.
"You were two-and-a-half times the legal limit and you were not in full control of the car."
Kitson was disqualified from driving for 12 months, the minimum, and fined £300.
