A NEW Lomond North councillor has been appointed as Argyll and Bute's latest Armed Forces Champion.

Councillor Barbara Morgan has been appointed in the role as advocate for servicemen and woman and veterans.

She will represent their interests on the council and is honoured to be chosen for the position.

Cllr Morgan, elected as a Conservative councillor for the ward in May, said: "I am delighted and honoured to be elected as Armed Forces Champion for Argyll and Bute.

"Every day in different ways our armed forces are working to protect and support us all and I look forward to serving them, as their champion, with the same dedication.

“I look forward to building on the already strong relationships we have with the armed forces here in Argyll and Bute, and to strengthening ties between serving troops, veterans and their families, and the communities in which they work and live.”

The council is a partner in the Argyll and Bute Community Covenant Partnership, which was set up to bring local organisations together to share knowledge, experience and expertise and to give positive and active support in the armed forces community.

The previous Armed Forces Champion was Maurice Corry, who stood down as a Conservative councillor for Lomond North in May to focus on his duties as an MSP for the West of Scotland following his election to the Scottish Parliament in 2016.
