ARGYLL and Bute Council staff will be the stars of the show in a new prime-time documentary series starting on BBC Scotland next week.

The Country Council, made by Firecracker Films, follows the work of people working for one of Scotland’s most geographically diverse local authorities.

Among the employees to feature in the first of the series’ three episodes are Desmond Middleton, the authority’s lead money advice officer, whose “patch” includes Helensburgh, Dunoon and a large part of the west coast.

The series’ production team travelled around Argyll and Bute earlier this year to research possible subjects for the series, and though they met members of the Hermitage Park regeneration team on a visit to Helensburgh in July, it’s understood that the Hermitage project hasn’t made the final cut.

Episode one of The Country Council airs on BBC One Scotland on Thursday, October 19 at 9pm.
