PEOPLE in Helensburgh will have a chance to bag a piece of the town’s civic history next week before items of furniture from former Argyll and Bute Council buildings go under the hammer.

Various items of furniture, including tables and chairs, from the former Marriage Rooms in West King Street and the old municipal buildings in Sinclair Street will be on sale with prices from £30 upwards.

The public will have the chance to view and purchase the items at the Victoria Halls on Monday, November 20 from 12-4pm and Tuesday, November 21 from 10am-2pm.

Interested buyers can make the appropriate payment to the Victoria Halls, with each item being sold as seen and the purchaser responsible for taking the item away. Any unsold furniture will then be sold at a public auction.

Proceeds from the sale will allow other items of civic interest to be displayed in the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre.

Councillor Ellen Morton, chair of the authority's Helensburgh and Lomond area committee, said: “The sale is an ideal opportunity for residents to own their own small piece of Helensburgh with proceeds being put to good use.”
