POLICE in Helensburgh are appealing for information following two serious assaults in the town over the festive period.

A man was injured in a disturbance outside a town centre bookmakers on Friday, December 29.

The 21-year-old suffered a head injury in the incident outside Ladbrokes on Sinclair Street at 8.30pm and was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he was treated for a head injury then later released.

The area was busy at the time with weekend party-goers and people returning home from work or shopping trips, and police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the disturbance.

The second incident, which took place between 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday, December 30, saw a 23 year-old man seriously assaulted whilst he was walking in the towns Williamson Drive.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he was treated for a back injury then later released.

Detective Constable Thomas O’Donnell of Helensburgh Police Office is appealing for any witness to these incidents. He said: “Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances and more details on each of these serious assaults.

“At the time of the disturbance in Sinclair Street on Friday night, the area would have been busy and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

“The serious assault in Williamson Drive was not reported to police at the time of the attack, so we are still working to establish more detail on the incident and trace who is responsible.

“I would ask anyone who has information that may assist these enquiries to please come forward to detectives at Helensburgh Police Office through 101. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”

* Separately, a 21-year-old man was assaulted in West Clyde Street in Helensburgh at 3.30am on Christmas Eve.

Enquiries are continuing to trace another man in connection with the incident.

And in a further Christmas Eve incident, a 48-year-old woman is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal for allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old woman within a public house in Helensburgh at 1.20am on December 24.
