FOUR Helensburgh and Lomond good causes have benefitted from a share of £1,440 following a fundraising event in the town last year.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club organised a board walk last October with 35 local businesses paying £40 to advertise on sandwich boards which were then walked around town by 28 rotary members and supporters.

Hotels, restaurants, accountants, builders, shops, dentists, gardeners, electricians, engineers, garages, estate agents and opticians were amongst the businesses who gave their support to raise the cash.

Now a number of local charities and organisations have received the money raised.

Route 81 was awarded £400, the Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank received £250, Children 1st were allocated £250 and Macmillan Cancer Support received a donation of £100.

Rotary president John Macpherson and vice president Norman Quirk paid a visit to Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank to present the cheque to food bank chair Mary McGinley which assisted with their work over the festive period.

Barbie Paterson, secretary of Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank, said: “We are most grateful to the Rotary Club of Helensburgh Garelochside for their generous cheque of £250 to the Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank.

“This money will be very useful as it can be put to topping up any food items we are running low on. It is also good to have money in the bank to pay for other essentials such as printing costs.

“Donations such as this from the local community help the food bank to keep operating to support those who are going through a difficult time in their lives.”

The president and vice president were the joined by Sheenah Nelson, immediate past president when they visited Children 1st at the Civic Centre to present the cheque.

Regan Johnston, senior community fundraiser for Children 1st, said: “Every child needs the best start in life possible so they can grow up to their full potential.

"With your support we are able to help Scotland’s families to put children first, with practical advice and support in difficult times.

"And when the worst happens, we support survivors of abuse, neglect, and other traumatic events in childhood to recover.

“We work to ensure that every child and young person in Scotland has a happy, healthy, safe and secure childhood.

“On behalf of the children and families that this donation will help, thank you very much.”
