THE celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Lomond School have been continuing around the world.

Former pupils have gathered at reunion events in London, Hong Kong and the German city of Leipzig to share their memories of their Helensburgh schooldays.

Andrew Yip, a former pupil and boarder who attended the Hong Kong event, said: “The reunion dinner in the Hong Kong Cricket Club was a really special night.

“It was great to see old friends from all over Asia. For those of us who were boarders at Lomond it felt like a family occasion. It was also special to welcome Mrs Urquhart on her first trip to Hong Kong.”

Another attendee of the Hong Kong event, Rory Mitchell, originally from Helensburgh but now based in Hong Kong, said: “It was lovely to reconnect with old friends, meet former pupils from different eras and share memories of our days in Helensburgh.”

Those attending the celebration in Leipzig also had fond memories to relay.

Benno Foertsch said: “My experience at Lomond was a really special one back in the early 2000s and I’ve stayed in touch with the school through the Lomond School Association ever since.

“I’m still playing rugby here in Leipzig – a sport I learned in Scotland. The reunion was a great idea and we’ve got plans for future events in 2019.”

The London reunion dinner at the Caledonian Club was an equally enjoyable evening featuring former headmaster Angus Macdonald as the after dinner speaker, provoking a great deal of happy memories with his remarks.

The next event on the celebrations schedule is a concert to be held at Helensburgh Parish Church on Thursday, March 22. Featuring Lomond School pupils and staff there will be everything from a Jazz ensemble to traditional music on the programme offering something for everyone. The concert will be open to all and will be free to attend.

The grand finale for the year is a 40th anniversary ball, to be held in Helensburgh in June.
