WORK on a series of sustainable community projects around Helensburgh and Lomond is due to be completed by next spring.

Seven community schemes in the area have received, or are due to receive, grants from Argyll and Bute Council’s ‘sustainable community initiatives fund’ for environmental improvements.

The latest update on each project was presented to the local authority’s environment, development and infrastructure committee last week.

The Arrochar and Tarbet Community Development Trust is due to complete work on a community garden and growing area, using a grant of £2,000, by August of this year.

Helensburgh Community Council has concluded a formal agreement with Argyll and Bute to improve and maintain Colquhoun Square, and has funding in place to match a council grant of £2,500.

Permissions are in place for the Helensburgh Tree Conservation Trust to begin planting 100 new trees in the town after the group received £2,500.

The James Street Community Garden received £3,365 towards the cost of new curved benches at the site, and benches have already been installed.

Rosneath and Clynder Community Council is to receive £2,500 to install new durable picnic tables and benches in Rosneath and is due to start work in the spring, with the grant to be paid when match funding is in place.

The Rosneath Peninsula Amenity Society expects to complete work on maintaining and developing the Brownie Park by September, using a grant of £150.

And the West Rossdhu Residents Group in Helensburgh, who received £680 from the fund, expects to complete work on planting and maintaining cherry trees by April 2019.
