Two young girls from Helensburgh are planning to donate their long hair to The Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children with cancer.

Brodie, 9, and Sophia McInally, 8, will have been growing their hair for a year when the time comes to cut their hair in May.

Their mum, Sharyn McInally, 31, said: “They have known a few people who have lost their hair due to cancer and it’s something they could do to help.

“They love their hair, but they have said they are quite happy give it and they can grow it back.”

She added: “Whenever they speak about it they say they could just donating their hair forever but as they get older it won’t grow as quickly.

The girls, who go to Hermitage Primary School in Helensburgh, are hoping to raise £500 for the cause.

Sophia’s hair is 55cm long and Brodie’s hair is 52cm long. They will have 31cm of their hair cut off to make long wigs, leaving them with short hair.

Sharyn told the Advertiser: “They really wanted to make a long wig, so they have been making sure I give them grown up shampoo to look after it.

“I was apprehensive that they wouldn’t like it once it was short, but they were really insistent, so after a while I said ok.

The girls are hoping to raise £500 for the charity before the event on May 12, when their hair will be cut.

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs and young adults up to the age of 24 who have lost their hair due to cancer or other illnesses.
