HELENSBURGH"s new-look rebranded supermarket was relaunched with a fanfare of events.

The Co-operative food store in Sinclair Street unveiled its new look and new name with a formal opening last week by some pupils from Hermitage Primary School.

The six pupils, chosen on the day to take part in the event, cut the ribbon to officially open the £1.3m make-over.

Brian Edmiston, store manager, said: 'As a community retailer it is appropriate that we involve the community in our special events and we are delighted children from a local school can play a central role in the re-launch of our store.'

Throughout the day there were balloons and fun to the fore as staff encouraged customers to make a donation to RNID Scotland"s Hear to Help service, and a charity representative was on hand to promote the race to get one million people to take RNID"s hearing check.

Customers were urged to value their hearing health and take the five-minute check by visiting www.rnid.org.uk/123 or calling 0844 800 3838.

Brian said: 'We were delighted to use the special occasion of the opening of our refurbished store to encourage our customers to continue supporting RNID Scotland"s Hear to Help service which reduces isolation for people with a hearing loss.

'We"re grateful for the tremendous generosity shown by our members and customers who have already raised more than £3,000 so far this year!'

Florence Edmond from RNID Scotland said: 'It was fantastic seeing how enthusiastically The Co-operative staff and customers made donations for our Hear to Help service which trains volunteers to provide practical support and friendship to hearing-aid users in their local communities."
