School wins top award

KILCREGGAN Primary School was honoured with a prestigious accolade at the Scottish Education Awards at Glasgow City Chambers.

The school won the Schools for All Award for its years of welcoming foster children who live with families in the area.

The primary was nominated by head teacher Frances Bretman and she was ecstatic Kilcreggan was chosen by Scottish Education judges to win one of the top accolades.

She said on Wednesday: 'We"re all delighted at winning the Schools for All Award and it has lifted the whole school"s spirits.

'The children are ecstatic and we are all going to celebrate in assembly this morning. We did not think we would win but to be recognised at national level is just fantastic.

'It means a lot to us to win the award as we have been a very caring school so it is great to be recognised out of the whole of Scotland.'

Kilcreggan, along with all the winning schools from each category, received a trophy, certificate and a £1,000 cheque. The achievement comes as the school celebrates its 150th birthday.

Local Councillor for Lomond North George Freeman said: 'I"m delighted that Kilcreggan Primary in the Lomond North Ward is one of only 17 schools from over 600 entrants across Scotland to win one of these prestigious awards.

"Congratulations to head teacher Frances Bretman and all those concerned at the school, especially the childen.'

And Councillor Danny Kelly also congratulated the school, saying: 'Well done to to Frances Bretman and the staff as well as the children.'

The Minister for Schools and Skills Keith Brown said: 'It is important that we recognise this hard work and dedication, which is why I"m pleased to congratulate Kilcreggan Primary School for winning the Schools for All Award category.'
