The third of our popular Helensburgh Heroes supplements is published in this week's Advertiser.

The 12-page pull-out section gives the biographies of a further 25 of the Burgh's most famous sons and daughters.

This latest instalment, compiled in conjunction with the Helensburgh Heroes charity, brings the total number of inspirational local men and women's stories that we have told to an incredible 76.

We believe it is essential we continue to showcase the stories of these incredibly talented people.

It is a trait of human nature that we tend to focus on the negative aspects of society and our communities and overlook the positives.

That is not to say that we should view the world through rose-coloured spectacles, far from it, news no matter how unpalatable must be reported, but we should also seek to celebrate our achievements as readily.

And Helensburgh has a lot to be proud of.

We have not yet completed the first month of the new decade, and already some of our highlighted Heroes have been busily building upon their already impressive reputations.

Wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid has won doubles gold in Adelaide, architect Gareth Hoskins has been awarded the OBE, Stephen McLaughlin has produced the music for Ian Drury biopic Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, young fiddle player Ryan Young performed on the BBC's Hogmanay celebrations and of course we have already mentioned Tom and Kyle's impressive starts to the year.

So why should we publicly celebrate the achievements of these people in this way? Is it simply a case of us generating some feel good factor' news?

The answer is no. We believe that we should be using the stories to educate and hopefully inspire the young people within our community.

We hope that you enjoy this supplement and that if you know of anyone whom you believe should be included in our list of Heroes please contact us - we would be delighted to hear from you.
