Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games

PLANS are well under way for this year's Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games which are sure to provide heaps of fun for all of the family.

The games will take place on Saturday June 12 at the Helensburgh Cricket and Rugby Club grounds at Rhu Road Higher, Ardencaple.

Sephton MacQuire, chairman of the games committee, said: "The committee has worked tirelessly to make the games a family-orientated event.

"It will always be our intention to keep the games cost effective, both for us in looking for value for money, and for local families and visitors to be able to have an affordable day out.

"The committee appreciates the generosity of the Helensburgh Cricket and Rugby Club in allowing the Highland Games to hold the event in such a great venue."

Enquiries about the games have been made from people far and wide, including Switzerland, Germany, France, America and Norway.

This year's Scottish 22lb shot-putt championship and the British 90m running event are sure to bring in many competitors, including some big names.

Double world heavyweight champion Aaron Neighbour has already confirmed that he will attend and there is also great interest from a number of other big names in the 'heavies', including people from America.

The youth of Helensburgh and Lomond are also being encouraged to get involved in both the heavy events and the athletics side.
