AN inspirational woman from Helensburgh has had her fund-raising efforts recognised by Breakthrough Breast Cancer Scotland.

After raising over £1,000, she was invited to nominate a name for the charity's first-ever supporters wall in Scotland which was unveiled in Edinburgh.

Lyndsey Petchey's good friend Katie McQueen has battled back from breast cancer twice. After surviving leukaemia as a teenager, she has had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, aged just 28.

Mum of one, Lyndsey was inspired by her friend to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and organised two 'Pink Parties' at the Ardencaple Hotel where she works part-time.

Her family and friends in the local community quickly rallied round to support the parties and help raise funds for the charity. Women - and men - bought tickets for the event and wore something pink for the occasion.

A raffle was held on the night, which local businesses generously provided prizes for and the Ardencaple Hotel provided the venue and buffet free of charge. A disco followed the raffle and they raised a total of over £3,500.

Katie has been given the all clear and both she and Lyndsey attended the inaugural ceremony at Breakthrough Breast Cancer's dedicated breast cancer research unit based at Edinburgh's Western General Hospital.

The charity's first supporters wall in Scotland was unveiled at the ceremony and Lyndsey nominated Katie's name to go on the wall.
