GP's across Scotland are being asked to help people keep warm in their homes and afford their fuel bills.

Keeping Warm, Keeping Well leaflets are being sent this winter by charity Energy Action Scotland, with support from ScottishPower, to all surgeries in Scotland.

The aim is to spread the word that there is assistance available to people living in cold, damp homes and for whom high fuel bills are a worry.

The initiative is being supported by Energy Action Scotland's honorary vice-president, Jackie Baillie MSP, who is helping to launch the new leaflets.

She said: "Fuel poverty is a huge problem for many people across Scotland. It affects the most vulnerable people in our communities including the elderly, and parents with young children as well as people with long term health conditions."

The leaflets will be on display in GP surgeries for the public to take away.

They contain information on grants for home insulation and heating, energy-saving advice and tips on how to reduce fuel bills.
