The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued a Flood Alert for Argyll and Bute, which advises residents to be prepared for possible flooding, following heavy rain and high winds overnight.

A Flood Warning for the A814 was also issued, however this is no longer in force.

Many roads remain affected by surface water.

The A82 at Pulpit Rock, south of Ardlui, will be closed until 4pm today (Thursday) while essential road repairs are carried out.

Recent inspections identified a 300m long section of road which runs alongside the Pulpit Rock Improvement Scheme that requires urgent resurfacing.

These works are such that they need to be carried out before the next set of programmed closures in the New Year. While night time closures were considered, this was not possible on health and safety grounds.

Extensive consultation has been undertaken in order to minimise disruption.

Eddie Ross of BEAR Scotland, who has organised the works for Transport Scotland, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank local communities and road users for their continued understanding and patience throughout the current improvement works. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we need to urgently carry out these repairs to ensure the resilience of this vital trunk road.

“Whilst the closures are unfortunate, we have consulted widely to ensure these works are managed to minimise disruption and we will continue to work with our operational partners to ensure any inconvenience to road users is kept to a minimum.” The A82 will remain open on either side of the closure from both Crianlarich and Tarbet for local access.

Diversion routes for through traffic are: northbound via the A83 at Tarbet, A819 and A85; southbound via the A85 at Tyndrum, A819 and A83.

Drivers are advised to check www.trafficscotland.org for further information about these works and for real-time journey planning advice.
