The event will launch on April 21 in Glebe Park in Dunbar, when singers will gather to sing a send-off to the many walkers, runners and cyclists making the inaugural trip along 130 miles of the John Muir Way.

The sing festival will last six days culminating in a final celebration in Helensburgh on Saturday, April 26 - when the final leg of the 10-day John Muir Festival comes to the Burgh.

Over the course of the week different groups of singers forming the Songline will come together to sing in Dunbar, Musselburgh, Edinburgh, Linlithgow, Clachan of Campsie, Loch Lomond and Helensburgh.

The chosen songs reflect the philosophy of the famous environmentalist John Muir and the singers will be made up of local community singing groups, choirs and school children.

One of the commissioned songs uses words from John Muir’s own writings and will build, verse by verse, across the country thus creating a Songline.

Anyone wishing to take part in the Songline is invited to come along to the workshop being held by song leader Ali Mills in Helensburgh on Friday, April 18.

The workshop is from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at The Tower (formerly St Columba’s Church) and is £3 a head. The songs are easy to learn for singers of any experience and ability.
