Jennifer Robertson has had her work exhibited in about 15 group exhibitions but now her art will form the focal point of a new show in Glasgow’s 13th Note.

Her drawings of fantasy animals have grabbed the attention of city art lovers after she returned to her passion 10 years ago.

Jennifer, 30, said: “I am still completing work for my upcoming exhibition – I am striving to put together a diverse range of images using various styles and materials.

“I hope that others who have neglected their skill and passion might be inspired to get back in touch with their creative side again and I hope that people will enjoy – or even be moved in some way – by my work.” Recalling her school days in Helensburgh, Jennifer says her interest in art was nurtured by her teachers at John Logie Baird Primary and Hermitage Academy who encouraged her to pursue her creative dream.

She added: “I chose not to pursue art any further when I left school, and I soon became out of the habit of drawing when I left Helensburgh and moved to Glasgow to begin university.” However, a decade later Jennifer resumed drawing when she became inspired by the creativity of others.

Speaking about her style, she said: “My current preference is for dry media such as biro, pencils, Sharpie pens and Promarkers on paper, and I have recently been creating bold, fantasy style images.

“I like to showcase exaggerated features with lots of detail and contrast.

“I think it is important to let flow whatever it is that is trying to get out of your mind rather than dilute or tame things.” As well as the solo exhibition, Jennifer has been invited to write an extended article and submit photographs of her work for the September edition of French art journal Sachet Mixte.

Her work is also form the cover of a single by successful Glasgow-based band The Girobabies, and she has helped create a large, colourful spray paint mural of Scottish scenes for a school in Penilee.

Jennifer’s exhibition will launch on August 4 at 7pm in the 13th Note, King Street, Glasgow. It is free and open to all.
