The retained fire fighter was last seen on October 31, heading off on a plant hunting expedition in the mountain town of Sapa, in Vietnam.

This week, Jamie’s family shared news of a letter to MSP Patrick Harvie from Hugo Swire, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Mr Swire said there was still no evidence of which direction Jamie had taken while trekking, but ‘searches are continuing’ and the British embassy would continue to liaise with local authorities in Vietnam and keep him updated.

He added: “I wrote to Vice Minister Bui Thanh Son, my counterpart in the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to urge the Vietnamese government to maintain the profile of Mr Taggart’s disappearance locally and ask that police review their investigation for new leads that might warrant further searches.

“We now await their response to consider whether there is any further support that we can offer.” Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond has also contacted the FCO about the case. The community in Cove and Kilcreggan has raised thousands of pounds to help the search for Jamie, and Hollywood star Hugh Grant - who has family connections to Linn Gardens - also made a substantial donation to the search fund.
