Joseph McAllister admitted dropping a case of Budweiser and a bottle of whisky at the town’s Co-op store in March last year.

Appearing from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, the 26-year-old asked his solicitor to seek “finality” over the matter.

The court heard McAllister had turned up drunk at the Sinclair Street store seeking to buy more alcohol.

When he was told he would not be served, he became aggressive and started shouting and swearing at staff there.

He was asked to leave but refused to do so, questioning why he would not be served.

He then dropped the crate of beer from over his shoulder and the whisky from his grasp, telling staff: “You better call the police.” Police arrived to find drunk McAllister, now of Campbeltown, still there. He was arrested and detained.

The cost of the damage was £40.49.

Bert Thomson, defending, told the court his client had been earmarked for a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO) assessment as a means of sentencing.

Mr Thomson told Sheriff Colin McKay his client was unable to be assessed for a DTTO because he was currently detained. Mr Thomson added: “He served 15 days in custody in relation to this matter and plead guilty to the charges early on.

He has asked me for finality over the matter.

“He was much the worse for alcohol and wanted to buy more.” Sentencing, Sheriff McKay said he had to take account of McAllister’s previous record.

He was jailed for six months.
