Sir Malcolm Rifkind, former Foreign and Defence Secretary and Secretary of State for Scotland, and presently chair of the Commons Select Committee on Intelligence and Security, made a presentation to about 300 audience members.

His speech focused on benefits of the Union, such as shared economy and pulled resources, and following his speech he took questions from the audience. Topics covered included Faslane, jobs, the NHS, oil reserves, and currency.

He also was joined on the stage by panellists Jackie Baillie, Helensburgh MSP, Helensburgh and Lomond South councillor Ellen Morton, depute leader of Argyll and Bute Council, and Helensburgh councillor Gary Mulvaney. Cllr Morton summed up the proceedings by thanking the speakers of the evening, and also the other politicians from both sides, who have all come to Helensburgh to add to the local debate.
