As the Advertiser has previously reported, the skate park has been the focus of a revamp campaign by the community group Helensburgh Skate Park Redevelopment, which can be found on Facebook.

News of the closure was shared by the group on Tuesday, when one member said: “The child’s injury is not too serious, but obviously serious enough. It is more urgent now that we get together and move on raising funds.” The group aims to raise money to ensure youngsters in the town have a place to skate locally, following complains from predominantly elderly members of the community that skaters had over-run the newly redeveloped Colquhoun Square.

A spokeswoman for Argyll and Bute Council said: “The skate park on Helensburgh pier has been closed following the injury of a child and it is everyone’s priority to ensure this does not happen again.

“The council is working closely with the Helensburgh Skate Park Refurbishment group to maintain the availability of a skate park on Helensburgh pier in the future.”
