Following the accident Argyll and Bute Council confirmed that after a Route Accident Prevention (RAP) Scheme signage will be enhanced at Daligan Bend, on the A818, by the end of the year.

Katie Boggie, 35, was travelling from her home in Helensburgh to Gleneagles, where she was working in hospitality at the Ryder Cup.

She was driving at about 15mph under the speed limit of the A818 – Luss Road – when her Mini got into trouble.

She said: “The car just began aquaplaning. Basically, a layer of water built up between the tyres and the road surface and so I lost all traction – it was like the car was on ice skates. When that happens it doesn’t matter if you break or drop the gears, which I tried, you just lose control.

“The car spun 360 degrees and it almost felt like that car was levitating, it was like a Harry Potter moment.” Katie’s car was written off after she was advised the vehicle suffered more than £5,000 of damage.

She believes she was fortunate enough to walk away from the crash, but days later when she and her father passed the same bend, they spotted another vehicle in the same spot, before seeing another later that week.

She said: “It was pretty bad but at least I was ok, which is more than I can say for my car which was mangled. I have been driving on that road in that car for a decade and everyone knows only too well the dangerous of country roads and in a way you take a chance getting into your car every day but there really does seem to be a problem with this bend in particular.

“Three cars came off it in about 10 days – it just shows you how lethal the road can be, even if you travel on it every day.” Katie welcomed the new signage, and added that anything that can help prevent an accident will be better.

A spokesman for Argyll and Bute Council said: “The signage at this location will be enhanced shortly.

“The A818 has been surveyed as part of a Route Accident Prevention (RAP) Scheme implementation of which will involve the enhancement of the road signage to alert motorists to particular hazards.

“This work should be completed by the end of the financial year.”
