Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews were sent to Pirnmill Place, Churchill, in response to a 999 call made at 7pm.

An appliance from Helensburgh community fire station attended the incident along with one from nearby Balloch in West Dunbartonshire.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus used a single line of hose to put out a small fire within a hall cupboard, while a second team in breathing apparatus worked to clear smoke from the property.

The SFRS personnel helped a man who appeared to have sustained minor smoke inhalation and requested the attendance of an ambulance.

After being assessed by paramedics it was determined he did not need further treatment in hospital.

Firefighters remained at the scene until around 10pm with cutting away operations conducted to ensure there was no hidden fire spread.

An SFRS spokesperson said: “Fire can happen to anyone so it’s vital we all ensure we would have early warning if it struck in our home.

“Working smoke alarms save lives. By quickly drawing people’s attention to the danger, they buy crucial time for everyone to get to safety and call 999.

“This gives firefighters the best chance of getting there in time to rescue anyone who can’t get out and also means our crews are more likely to be able to extinguish the fire before it can spread.” Free home fire safety visits are available to householders and SFRS wants to hear from anyone who thinks they, or someone they know, could benefit from firefighters’ advice.
