The map labels the 64-year-old Colgrain Bowling Club, on Monaebrook Place, as the non-existent Craigendoran Bowling Club, and when a member of the club alerted the council, they were told it would not be updated until more information needed changed in the future.

The bowler said the situation ‘beggars belief’. He added: “I didn’t think it would be that big a deal to change – I mean how do you even get that wrong? We were established in 1951 and we pay our bills to the council as Colgrain Bowling Club.

“It took almost three months for the council to get back to me and then they just told me that they weren’t going to fix it.

“It is damaging to our reputation because people might try searching online for Craigendoran Bowling Club only to find it doesn’t exist. To be honest we would be better off if we weren’t included on the map at all. I’m pretty peeved off.” The council spokesman said it investigated possible solutions, however the options are ‘not cost effective’, with an estimate of the alterations in the region of £2,000.

He added: “This is due to the fact that the map panel would have to be removed by specialists, taken to a workshop, have a new vinyl produced and fitted then returned to site and re-installed. It would not be appropriate to spend that amount of public money to fix a minor error on a map which is likely to be replaced with an updated version in a couple of years as Helensburgh continues to change through the council’s regeneration initiatives, particularly at the pierhead.

“The map was created by a local contractor, with input from the community, through the council’s public realm improvement scheme.

“This is an unfortunate situation and we have noted the error, which will be rectified on the next map.”
