Martyn Lawrie, general manager at the golf course, has hit out at dog walkers who were not picking up after their animals, which had led to complaints from members.

He said: “It just seems to be getting worse. We are at our wits end. There’s always been an issue with the Old Luss Road splitting the course so dogs are around, and we maintain that road.

“Recently, we’ve been finding dog mess on some of the tees, there’s more around the fairways “We’ve had comments from golfers – they pay quite a lot of money to be members.” He also said that there was an increase in people picking up after their dogs - but then throwing the plastic bag away, meaning greenkeepers were having to climb up trees and through bushes to keep the place tidy.

He said: “There also seems to be people who are picking it up in a bag, then throwing the bag away into trees. It seems crazy they would go to the trouble of picking it up then throwing it away. It’s all very unpleasant.

“Environmentally, that’s not good either, as there’s plastic bags lying about.” Mr Lawrie added that it was not people walking dogs that was causing issue - just the problem of dog mess around the course.

He said: “It’s a public right of way, we know that and don’t mind that, we maintain the road - but we would expect people using it to play their part too. It’s a big area to police.

“Occasionally we have to ask owners to keep their dogs on the lead, we accept that people walk their dogs around the course.”
