Officially known as the Gaitway Brothers, the fourteen year old singers have notched up over 42,000 YouTube hits and amassed a fan base spanning the globe.

The Gaitway Brothers released their debut album Gaitway in September 2013 and have been working on a host of projects since. Their new single, a cover of Swedish record producer Avicii’s Hey Brother, is out now.

The new single has been released shortly after their contribution to International Christmas Child, a charity album raising funds for charity Operation Christmas Child. The brothers’ sang Like a Candle Flame on the fourteen track album, raising over £600 in the process.

Their foot in the door of the music industry came in the form of Matthew Todd, a classically trained musician who offered to manage them after overhearing the twins singing at a Scripture Union camp.

The brothers were aged ten at the time. Matthew told the Advertiser: “I met them at a camp. A few weeks earlier their dad had died in a motorcycle accident, so I was working with them to help out. We made their first music video and from then on gained an audience. It was exactly what the boys needed at that point.” He said the duo’s success is due to their online fan base; they have thousands of Facebook likes and Twitter followers, including a small number of committed fans.

They have a wide international following, which the boys very much take in their stride.

Peter told the Advertiser: “We are thankful for all the support we get from our fans on Twitter and Facebook.” Steven added “If it was not for our fans we wouldn’t be where we are. They are really supportive.” The Gaitway Brothers have been involved in a lot more acting recently. As actors, singers and vocal artists they have a host of different talents. They’ve already got an award-winning music video under their belt for With You (Còmhla Riut-sa) and starred in short film Fable of Forsaken which was released in January.

The young artists’ videos are very different compared to artists of a similar age.

Matthew said: “Some of their videos are quite mature. At the roots of this is recognition that just because they are children it does not mean they can’t put across powerful messages.” The boys’ latest music video to accompany single Hey Brother raises awareness of child trafficking.

The boys enjoy living in Helensburgh, finding it the perfect location for filming their videos.

They said: “We like living in Helensburgh because it is not a big town and it is very beautiful – when it is not raining.

Their first video was filmed on Helensburgh beach which captured the attention of the audience. Matthew added: “They’re bringing Scottish music to an international audience.” He said the boys are not short of ambition. Matthew said: “Next up they have regular music videos, branching out to new styles, collaboration with other young artists and promoting particular issues.” Steven’s said the brothers are keeping their option open. He added: “I don’t have any specific goals for the future. I’m waiting to see what pops up.” For more information visit the Gaitway Brothers’ Facebook page.
