Representatives from the school’s Pupil Council and Eco Committee visited Victoria Halls for a consultation session to make sure their opinions were heard.

The primary 4 – 6 pupils critiqued the new proposals and made the most of the opportunity to question the architects who drew-up the designs.

The children provided the architects with a range of innovative ideas, focussing on opportunities for learning in addition to outdoor pursuits.

Michelle Collins, head teacher, said: “Ambitious plans for the redevelopment of Hermitage Park were unveiled and the St Joseph’s pupils wanted to make sure that the interests of children just like them were heard.

“The children examined the three proposals - heritage, formal and water - as well as pictures of the park in its prime and the present day. The children were excited by some of the proposals and grilled the architects who had designed the new plans. The children wanted to make sure that there were lots of opportunities for outdoor learning as well as leisure pursuits.

“St Joseph’s is currently focusing on opportunities for outdoor learning and the children had lots of suggestions for the final outcome of the park. The architects commented on how engaged and knowledgeable the children were and were delighted by some of the innovative suggestions made by them.”
