On March 27, 28, and 29, thousands of beach lovers across the UK will be cleaning up 150 beaches, and members of the public are being asked to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.

Kilcreggan is one of the 16 Scottish beaches chosen – and it is hoped that people will turn out to help tackle the trash.

A recent United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP) report estimated that eight million individual litter items enter the marine environment every day meaning that there is now more plastic than plankton in some areas of the world’s oceans.

Dom Ferris, project manager at Surfers Against Sewage said: “Each year we are blown away by the commitment and passion of our coastal communities, 150 Big Spring Beach Cleans is amazing.

“This year we can and will draw a line in the sand in the battle against marine litter.” The Kilcreggan beach clean will take place on Sunday, March 29 from 10.30am until 3.30pm.
