The village school raised £615 for this year’s appeal – which will be doubled to £1,230 after the UK government agreed to match all school donations to Comic Relief. The pupil council was responsible for choosing what fundraising activities the school would take part in. They decided to host a cupcake competition, a bake sale, pin the red nose on the clown, face painting, and more for 50p per pupil. Elspeth Davis, head teacher, praised pupils for an amazing day of fundraising. She told the Advertiser: “Thank you everyone for baking, donating, spending; but most of all – having fun!” This year’s Red Nose Day appeal for Comic Relief reached their one billion pound target, raising £1,047,083,706 to tackle poverty and social justice in the UK and abroad.
