On Friday, June 26 a man entered Young Newsagents on East King Street and threatened the shop keeper with a knife, demanding money.
When challenged by the shopkeeper the man left the premises and turned left towards the police station.
His movements after that are unknown at this time.
The incident happened at around 1.30pm on Friday.
Police previously said the man was wearing a dark hooded top and jeans.
The man is described as 5’10”, slim, around 30 years old and wearing a black top with the hood up. He also spoke with a Glaswegian accent.
Detective Constable Ricky Lynass said: “Luckily nobody was hurt in this incident but it was nevertheless a distressing experience for the shopkeeper.
“Our investigation is at an early stage and officers are carrying out enquiries locally as well as examining CCTV footage.
“I would appeal to anyone with information about this incident to contact police via the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where all calls will remain anonymous.”
