The resident of Queen’s Court, near the seafront, said fireworks were being set off right next to the flats at 11.15pm, frightening people and animals.
She told the Advertiser: “Me and most of my neighbours were either in bed or going to bed when the big loud bangs from the fireworks went off.
“I was talking care of a friend’s dog and it was so frightened and quite a lot of old folk live here in the blocks of flats and they were frightened to death – some with experiences of bombings.
“We don’t know if someone was celebrating July 4 or what but it was very loud. It went on for about five minutes. It was like being under attack.” A spokesman for Police Scotland said the force did not receive any complaints about fireworks. He added: “If fireworks are being set off at such hours, it would likely be pre-planned, a special occasion perhaps. If that is the case, we would usually get a warning from the organisers and it would likely be above board. A things to remember, is fireworks don’t usually last very long. Any such enquiries about fireworks can be directed to 101.”
