More than 75 residents and visitors helped raise £267 towards the church and its benevolences whilst enjoying a scone and a cup of tea.

There was also the chance for people to spend their cash at a book and DVD stall and take part in a fundraising tombola.

Light entertainment was provided on the day by Frank Murray who impressed with his piano playing.

The cream tea series is held annually at Helensburgh United Reformed Church and runs until the end of July.

Irene Stephenson, one of the organisers, said: “It was very busy even though the weather wasn’t all that great.

“There were visitors in the town and people who had just come out for the day.

“We were very pleased and would like to thank everyone for their support.” The next Cream Tea at the church, on West Princes Street, will take place this Saturday, July 25, from 2pm to 4pm.
