Thomas Walker previously pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing on December 16 last year.

The 35-year-old also admitted assaulting his other victim during the incident at Williamson Drive.

Walker, of Kirkmichael Road, appeared for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

Scott Simpson, fiscal depute, told the court several people were at the property and they had been drinking by the time Walker’s partner arrived.

Mr Simpson said: “The accused began to shout and swear at her.

“A female unrelated to the accused intervened at that point. Mr Walker seized her by the neck and pushed her against a wall.

“Police arrived at the locus and the accused, by then, had gone.” Gail Campbell, defending, told the court her client recalled being struck during his drunken haze, adding that it was no justification for his actions.

Ms Campbell continued: “He deeply regrets the comments.

“Alcohol is not an excuse but he was heavily under the influence.” Sheriff Maxwell Hendry told Walker his comments were ‘offensive in the extreme’ and said: “I am somewhat surprised she is still your partner.

“If there is any repetition of this type of behaviour in the near future, I expect to send you to prison.” Walker was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within four months.

He was placed under supervision for a year.
