Scores of pupils achieved five Highers results – which is up five per cent on last year’s record.

Those gaining three or more Highers in S5 went up by 13 per cent, and those achieving one or more Higher went up by one per cent.

The number of S5 pupils who got five Highers went up to 44, from 33 last year.

The Hermitage Academy Curricular Model allows pupils to sit six subjects in S5 and the school were delighted that 29 pupils achieved six Highers.

Five pupils attained five A passes and two pupils achieved the total of six A passes at Higher.

At Advanced Higher again the pupils performed very well with more pupils than before achieving two or three Advanced Highers.

Three pupils achieved three A passes in Advanced Higher, with one pupil gaining three As and one B.

Geoff Urie, headteacher at Hermitage Academy, said: “Congratulations to our pupils who received their SQA examination results on August 4.

“I am very pleased to say that our pupils have achieved well in the exams and they should be congratulated on their successes.

“A considerable amount of hard work was expended by the pupils and teachers.

“This coupled with support from parents and carers, has led to many satisfied successful learners in Hermitage Academy.” Other awards were also recognised by the school, including 77 pupils who successfully gained their Young Sports Leader Award.

It is hoped these young people will be able to coach in Helensburgh and Lomond, boosting sport in the local community.

There is a new system, called INSIGHT, for analysis of SQA results and pupils’ wider achievements and this data will be with the school at the end of September.

At that stage the school will be able to compared with similar schools in Scotland and have an accurate picture of their performance on a national level.

The school will inform parents with a more detailed analysis of the results once the insight data is made available.

The school will be celebrating the Academic and Wider Achievements of the pupils at the Annual Awards Evening on Thursday, September 10.
