Crew members from the Vanguard-Class submarine HMS Victorious were presented with the Fleet Commander’s Commendation.

The HMNB Clyde-based ship’s company took part in the special Divisions ceremony recently which was attended by Rear Admiral Matt Parr, Commander Operations. On behalf of Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Sir Philip Jones, he recognised the efforts of HMS Victorious’ Port Crew for the most outstanding contribution across defence over the preceding year.

Admiral Parr took the opportunity to thank the sailors and their families in person for their performance over a challenging period, featuring prolonged periods away from home.

Each Vanguard class submarine has two crews – Port and Starboard – one in charge of the boat and another supporting ashore. As well as honing their skills through training, the support crew ensures the messages keep flowing, and ensures families are given the support they need. As a result Victorious’ crew is a close-knit community which turned out in force on divisions, after which a number of crew received awards for longstanding service.

Amongst those honoured were Warrant Officer 2 Scott Sullivan, who was presented with the Queen’s Warrant on his promotion to WO2, and Leading Seaman Joe Lawson, who received a clasp to his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for an impressive 30 years of dedicated service.

Commander Scott Johnson said: “It gives me great pride to take command of such a professional body of men and women. These awards recognise the incredible achievements of the ship’s company over the past year, as well as the unswerving support of our families, and I look forward to building on these achievements over the course of our next patrol.”
