The 14th annual Cove and Kilcreggan Real Ale Festival saw over 400 people from across the UK enjoying 20 casks of ale and six ciders throughout the day.

Top-notch entertainment was on offer from The Midgie Rakers and Kenny Woods and Friends at the festival, which saw visitors from as far afield as Aviemore, Somerset and Wales.

More than £8,300 was taken in on Saturday – which will go towards the Cove Burgh Hall – with the final profit figure still to be announced.

Jeanne Brady, one of the event organisers, said the event attracted more people than previous years and was ‘crucial’ for showcasing the merits of the local area.

She told the Advertiser: “I think with the advent of things like Facebook and other social media sites we had some more people than previous years and it just seemed to expand which is great and that’s what we want to happen.

“I think fellow organiser Andy Gill said he met one fellow who saw it on Facebook and came all the way from Wales, so we were very fortunate to have new people and that’s what it’s all about really.

“It’s a beautiful area and if it brings people into this area then that’s even better.” Fellow organiser Andy Gill added: “Many people have commented on the great atmosphere and friendliness of the event, not least an official from CAMRA Glasgow, who was very impressed.

“Special thanks are due to my fellow committee members for months of hard work including Phil Wood, Paul Stewart, John Webb, and Jeanne Brady, and Tony Belk, for his expertise on beer selection.”
