A TODDLER whose father is serving in Afghanistan is just one of many tiny tots at a Faslane nursery who are donning red clothes each month to show their support to UK troops in combat.

HM Naval Base Clyde's Carousel run nursery - who work closely with the military as many of the children have parents working at HMNB Clyde - are making the last Friday of each month 'Red Friday' by wearing the colour to remember the soliders on deployment.

The Clyde Nursery, which is situated just outside the gates of HM Naval Base Clyde, has around 50 children; among them is 15-month old Jacob Gardner, whose father, 39-year-old Jai, is currently serving in Afghanistan.

A Petty Officer Diver from HM Naval Base Clyde's Northern Diving Group, Jai was the first Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) expert to take part in bomb disposal in the region.

He left for Afghanistan in October this year and has been working alongside Army bomb disposal operators to help make the country safer.

His wife, 27-year-old Karen Garner, works at HM Naval Base Clyde's Medical Centre and was keen to get Jacob involved in the nursery's event.

"I thought it was a great idea to get the children behind the troops," said Karen.
