A WANNABE bodybuilder was stunned after opening mail this week containing rules to a competition held FIVE months ago.

The Burgh man, in his early twenties, was due to take part in the competition staged by the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation at the SECC in the first week of June.

But the set of rules and regulations never arrived, and he decided in the end against competing.

Included with the mail, which arrived last Wednesday despite being postmarked May 20, was a letter of apology from the Royal Mail, along with a membership to the federation which, because of the delay, has less than TWO months until it expires.

The reader showed the Advertiser the letter of apology from the Royal Mail's investigation unit in Edinburgh, which read:

"I regret that the enclosed postal packet has been delayed whilst in the course of post.

"The cause of the problem has been identified and is likely to be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

"Please accept my apology on behalf of Royal Mail for the obvious concern and inconvenience you have been caused.

"You may be assured that we treat such matters very seriously and will do everything possible to prevent future failure of this nature, ensuring the safe delivery of your mail."
