RING out the old, ring in the new - the people of Luss are taking the words of the traditional New Year hymn quite literally this year.

Members of the congregation of Luss Parish Church will join their minister, the Rev Dane Sherrard and Lieutenant Commander Mike Palmer, to ring in their 1,500th anniversary year from the top of Inchtavannach island on New Year's Eve.

And they will welcome the New Year with two bells - one the 64lb bell from HMS Neptune at HM Naval Base Clyde and one which was uncovered in the garden of the manse.
