Pealer's appeal for new conductor

Comments (1) | Print | Email

WHILE those jingle bells may be back in Santa's storage for another year, one group of Helensburgh musicians are still ringing their bells.

For around 20 years, the Peaton Pealers have been tirelessly handbell ringing in Helensburgh.

However, the ringers have been conductor-less for three years and are appealing for interested individuals to come forward to lend a hand.

Secretary Edna Armstrong explained: "We've tried to get a few people on board recently, but obviously most musical folk in Helensburgh are tied up with other clubs.

"Since our previous conductor, Gillian Wiltshire moved down south three years ago we've been without a leader.

"We'd absolutely love a permanent conductor as we keep having to take turns conducting ourselves just now."

Originally based in the Peninsula, two decades ago the Peaton Pealers relocated to Helensburgh after advertising for more members.

The group of 11 ringers meet every Monday night to rehearse in the Family Centre in Churchill Square. Ringers range from 20 through to retirement age, and the pealers play a varied repertoire.
