RESIDENTS in Arrochar and Tarbet have blasted the appearance of land at the head of the loch, calling it "appalling" and off-putting for tourists.
But Gordon Watson, director of rural development and planning at the National Park told villagers the park is in the middle of discussions with agencies to improve the area.
Members of Arrochar and Tarbet Community Council expressed their concern that the local plan - which is due to be published on February 19 - would not bring any immediate benefit to the area.
At a community council meeting last week members stated: "Anyone visiting the area today would be appalled at the condition of the area, particularly around the head of the loch, which is in desperate need of tidying up and maintenance and visitors would be forgiven for driving through the village to somewhere better."
Attending last week's community council meeting, Gordon Watson assured residents there would still be opportunity for projects to be amended if there was scope to increase community benefits.
Issues raised at the meeting included the problems of watercourse and flooding at the proposed housing site in Succoth and the impact retail developments would have on existing businesses. .
Members of the council criticised temporary repairs to the pier at Tarbet, which has caused subsidence on an area of bank along the loch side, creating a dangerous deep water area close to shore.
Gordon explained the park has approached the Scottish Government for funding to upgrade the piers and assured local businesses have no need to worry about retail developments as they depend on private investment.
Tourism, housing and development opportunities are also listed in the local plan alongside the campus and pontoon project at Arrochar, and water taxi service at Tarbet.
The former torpedo range has been suggested as an outdoor activities development opportunity for hill walkers, with potential for water sports and provision of accommodation.
It is also thought numerous derelict buildings behind the Tarbet Hotel could be brought back into use.
There will be a community gathering event on February 17 at the Park HQ in Balloch and a local drop-in session on March 4 in the new village hall to answer any questions.
Objections to the plan can be raised in written form, formal hearing or a full inquiry.
