CARDROSS lass Bethany Roknic wants to see a set of traffic lights in her village.
Bethany, 12, a first-year pupil at Hermitage Academy, likes to visit her school friends who live in the Bainfield estate in Cardross but finds crossing the main road daunting.
So, not one to keep her views to herself, Bethany decided to elicit the support of the village Community Council.
She sent them a letter saying: "I am 12 years old and called Bethany and I am interested in child safety. We have a dangerous road in Cardross and the traffic goes very fast in both directions.
"A lot of children live in Bainfield and the Main Road so I think that there should be traffic lights at the entrance to Bainfield. Many of my friends agree with me as I go to Bainfield a lot to meet my friends and I hate crossing the road because it is so dangerous with fast flowing traffic. It is not just dangerous for children but also for elderly people in the village. I hope you can help with this idea."
The community council agreed that they should support Bethany and have passed her request on to Councillor Andrew Nisbet.
Bethany's mum Rosemary, said that Bethany visits her grandparents the Rev. Andrew and Mrs Scobie after school and they live on the opposite side of the main road to Bainfield.
She said: "She has quite a few friends who live in Banfield and finds it quite a struggle crossing that bit of road. Cars and vans go too fast there."
