RESIDENTS' worst fears came true after a schoolgirl was injured walking to school last week.
The 12-year-old girl had to be taken to the Vale of Leven Hospital for treatment to her arm after the incident on Drumfork Road last Thursday, February 4.
It's believed she was struck by a car as she was walking near the edge of the pavement and now police officers in Helensburgh are appealing for witness to the incident which happened around 8:30am.
Although it has not been confirmed which school she was on her way to, Ian Fraser - who led the North Colgrain Resident's Association - said there were worries from residents about the safety of youngsters on Drumfork Road as a result of the increase in traffic as pupils are dropped off at the Academy.
He said: "There were concerns from residents of Drumfork Road and Collins Road about the amount of traffic coupled with the kids walking to school, which was something we did take up with the council.
"It was especially worrying with the icy conditions of late as some cars have been sturggling to make it up the steep roads."
Now he is calling for the back entrance of the school to be closed off to vehicular traffic and kept open solely for pedestrian access.
Police confirmed the girl was released from hospital after receiving treatment for a minor injury to her arm.
The only description of the car is that it is light blue in colour.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Helensburgh Police Office on 01436 633600.

I couldnt believe it when the council put speed bumps on Drumfork road to protect the Secondary school kids walking to school. At what point did they consider all the primary school kids walking down Drumfork road to Colgrain primary, which are more at risk due to the influx of traffic now speeding up and down the road for the Academy. It is diabolical that the council have let all the traffic come up and down Drumfork road without a single thought for the younger generation children who are more likely to stray onto a road without realising it.

The school has a drop off area within its grounds the parents should use it they are all aware it is there. I agree that the entrance should be blocked off i dont live in the area and have to take my son to school by car but i use the correct drop off area.it may take 10 more minutes but for the saftey of my child and other peoples children 10 minutes of time means nothing.
