YOUNGSTERS in Kirkmichael will soon have a safer place to play, thanks to an award of nearly £10,000 to revamp a playpark.
A cheque was this week presented to the Kirkmichael Tenants and Residents' Association for £9,902.26 which will be used to purchase new equipment in order to create a 'toddler's corner' at the park by the Learning Centre.
The cash came from Awards for All, who are part of the Big Lottery Fund, and will allow the group to buy six pieces of play equipment, including a toddler swing, roundabout, see saw, ride-on donkey, a clatter bridge and log walk.
Chairperson Catherine Collins said that once complete, the park would make a "huge difference" to children's lives.
"The money is well received within the community and we are now hoping volunteers will come forward to help install the play equipment as we hope to have the playpark fully operational by the middle of April."
