HEARTFELT tributes have flooded in for a young sailor who committed suicide by turning a loaded gun on himself onboard a vessel inside Faslane Naval base last weekend.
Lovingly called a "legend" by his friends, 23-year-old seaman Matthew Webster is believed to have been aboard minesweeper HMS Hurworth, which was at berth two at HMNB Clyde when Saturday's tragedy happened.
He is thought to hold the position of Trot Sentry on the minesweeper - meaning as part of his duty he stands on the bridge of the boat and is armed at ALL times.
Facebook tributes have poured in for the Leicestershire lad, who was an avid footballer and played as a winger and striker for Moira United in his spare time.
No reason has been given for the suicide of the former pupil of Ashby School, who had been in a relationship with girlfriend Nicola Evans since August last year.
