Cardinal to preach at Luss
SUNDAY will be a very historic day in a year of historic days at Luss.
His Eminence Cardinal Keith O'Brien, President of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland and the leader of the Catholic Church in Scotland, will be the guest preacher at Luss Parish Church which is celebrating 1,500 years of Christian worship at the site.
Cardinal O'Brien is very much looking forward to his visit.
He said: "I am delighted to be able to join the congregation of Luss Parish Church and join with them in celebrating 1,500 years of Christian witness in that area. I look forward to praying with them and hope that in the years to come all our Christian denominations will draw ever closer together on the path to true unity."
The visit by the Cardinal is the latest in a long list of distinguished clergymen who have visited Luss to help celebrate 1,500 years of Christianity on the site.
The place of worship now occupied by Luss Parish Church was originally a Celtic Church and the became Roman Catholic until after the Scottish reformation 450 years ago when the congregation became Presbyterian and part of the Church of Scotland.
The visit by the Cardinal celebrates the ecumenical nature of the church at Luss and the minister the Rev Dane Sherrard and his congregation are delighted that he has accepted their invitation.
Mr Sherrard said: "For a small village Church of Scotland congregation to be graced by such a visit is nothing short of wonderful and I am so grateful to Cardinal O'Brien for agreeing to come and preach at our service next Sunday.
"I hope he will plant a tree in the Glebe before joining the congregation at a buffet lunch in the manse grounds."
During his visit, the Cardinal will be shown the Rossdhu Book of Hours.
