THE second phase to develop Rhu playground is complete - thanks to the generosity of the community in its success at raising a staggering £32,000.
The Rhu and Shandon Playground Association is delighted with the result and is now gearing up for phase three, which will see 'play equipment' for senior citizens being installed.
There are three new additions to the playground at Manse Brae which are a zip slide, climbing frame and pendulum swing, designed for older children.
Liz McDonald, chairwoman of the association, which was set up to develop a play area for the whole community, said the committee is "thrilled" that plans for the park are coming together.
The scheme also aims to encourage the whole community to become fitter.
She said: "The park has given a huge boost to to the village and is busy from am to pm with all ages.
"A definite success, the committee are thrilled.
"There is such a buzz about the village and seeing the kids playing in the park.
"People are coming from outwith the area to enjoy the park.
"Everybody has taken part in fundraising and it has been a real community effort.
"We even had children in the village washing cars.
"People have also been picking up rubbish in the park."
The committee raised the cash through grants, as well fundraising and donations, and it is now in the middle of raising funds for phase three which will cost £28,000.
The next phase involves the installation of exercise equipment for seniors, as well as goals for football games and bigger swings.
Liz continued: "Once the exercise equipment is in there will be something for everybody.
"We wanted the park to be open to everyone, no matter what age or ability.
"We still have some way to go to raise the money but are frantically fundraising and applying for grants."
