Lights group in funding bid
CHRISTMAS may return to the streets of Helensburgh this year.
Following last year's disappointing festive lights display a small band of people have got together to raise some money and have the town's sorry stock of lights repaired and refurbished in time for this Christmas.
Under the charity flag of the Friends of the Victoria Hall Councillor Vivien Dance, Tony Dance, Joan Mulroy, Caroline Mundie, John Niven and Darrel Hendrie are planning to raise enough money for the project to bring some Yule-tide cheer back to the town's streets.
Work has already begun on taking each of the light units which at one time adorned the town centre lamp-posts and assessing its condition and what repairs are needed.
Once that task is complete the group will set about getting the necessary work done in time for the start of the Christmas shopping season.

This appears to be another attempt by the council to garner the glory after the work and input of others.
Last years almost non-existant display lead local businesses and philanthropists to speak out and pledge the necessary funding to insure than this years decoration and display did not embarrass the town again.
The council should stick to the neigh-saying, inactivity, and direct resistance to the regeneration and improvement of the town that they have proven to be so good at rather than trying to make themselves look good at the expense of the town.
